About V&S
Barrett Marshall - Principal
Veil & Signal grew from decades of work in social justice, community organizing, and trauma-informed practice, alongside a lifelong engagement with interpretive art and meaning-making. After many years working within systems, it became clear that my deepest work was not building solutions for others, but creating the conditions under which people can recognize their own authority.
My background spans advocacy, education, mentorship, and coaching. Over two decades as an attorney, professor, and consultant refined my ability to work at the intersection of systems and lived experience—to recognize patterns, name constraints, and support agency without imposing direction. I was trained to think structurally, ethically, and relationally, and to hold complexity without rushing toward resolution.
There is no fixed process here. The work is shaped with each client. My role is to support discernment: to surface patterns, clarify tension, and create space for decisions that are internally grounded rather than externally driven.
I work with clients at moments of transition—when something no longer fits, a direction is changing, or an old way of moving has reached its limit. Whether the question is professional, relational, or existential, the work is the same: to slow the moment enough for meaning to emerge, and to restore trust in your own capacity to choose.
Veil & Signal is built for people who understand reflection as a form of intelligence and coherence as a form of authority. This work does not promise answers. It offers orientation—a way to meet change with clarity and integrity.
